Bronx Park Map 1888

Of the 653 acres condemned by the city for Bronx Park (shown here in 1888), more than half were owned by the Lorillard Estate (now the Botanical Gardens) and 170 acres were owned by the Lydig estate. Another 40 acres in Westchester County were part of the Ann Bolton estate (back then, land east of the Bronx River was Westchester), and the remainder was owned by Jefferson M. Levy, Frederick Grote, C.A.L. Kernochan, Mary L. Barbey, and Eva L. Kipp. All total, it cost the city $2.3 million to acquire the lands for Bronx Park in 1888.
