William Hanford "Big Bill" Edwards

William Hanford “Big Bill” Edwards (1877 – 1943) was a popular football player for Princeton University. In 1910, he put his football skills to good use by tackling a man who was attacking and trying to kill New York mayor William Gaynor. Edwards served as deputy of street cleaning in New York for several years, including the year of the Christmas Eve blizzard.
