Brooklyn Navy Yard

President John Adams authorized the establishment of the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Wallabout Bay in 1801. The Navy decommissioned the Yard in 1966, but it became an area of private manufacturing and commercial activity. Today the yard is managed and operated by the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation for the City of New York. Museum of the City of New York, ca. 1860, 29.100.3507
