1893: The Tombs’ Black Cat That Befriended Prisoners on Murderers’ Row » The_Tombs-built_1902
The original building was replaced in 1902 with a new one on the same site connected by a “Bridge of Sighs” to the 1894 Criminal Courts Building on Franklin Street. Old Nig died one year short of the grand opening of the new prison.
