Coogan's Bluff Polo Grounds

Because of its elevation, fans frequently watched games from Coogan’s Bluff without buying tickets. Locals from Harlem and Washington Heights often referred to the bluff as Deadhead Hill. In early days, stone steps led down to the hollow; these were later replaced by a wooden staircase and, in 1913, by the John T. Brush stairway.
