Reed and Bielby also built a small pier that jutted out into Gravesend Bay so that they could operate daily side-wheeler steamboat ferry excursions to the pavilion. Their intention was to attract day-trippers who wanted to get away from the city for a few hours to have a picnic and enjoy the fresh air. The fare was 12 1/2 cents each way.
