Bull's Head Hotel, 44th Street and Fifth Avenue

The llamas’ first stop in New York was the Bull’s Head Hotel, then owned by David Allerton. The hotel was set on fire during the July 1863 Draft Riots, apparently because Allerton refused to provide alcohol to the mob. The hotel later reopened and was reportedly a house of ill repute. In the 1880s and 1890, under the ownership of Gustav Zimmerman, numerous murders and suicides were reported at the Bull’s Head.
