Maiden Lane and Pearl Street

Cornelius Van Tienhoven’s homestead was near the intersection of present-day Pearl Street and Maiden Lane, pictured here in 1816 when this corner was home to the Fly Market, the predecessor to the Fulton Street Market. Before it was laid out and cobbled in 1698, Maiden Lane was a footpath along a pebbled brook that ran from Nassau Street to the East River.
